Leisure complex opens with a splash

The mayors of Scarborough and Filey made a splash at the official launch of the new £3.5mlllion leisure complex at The Bay holiday village, south of Filey.

The swimming pool and leisure facility forms the central attraction of the development on the former Butlins site and has created 15 new jobs, according to owners Essential Vivendi.

The pool, which is 20m in length, is primarily for the use of home owners and visitors to The Bay, although the company said it would be offering a subscription scheme to locals.

Filey mayor Richard Walker and outgoing Scarborough mayor Hazel Lynskey cut the ribbon together before staff members jumped into the water to the cheers of the official party.
